Description
Earthen House – “La Casa di Z’Andulina”
In Casalincontrada, the capital of earthen houses in Abruzzo, we present a truly unique property, built with the traditional technique, using a natural mix of earth, water, and straw.
The house has been carefully restored with the support of local specialists and represents a rare opportunity: out of about 900 surviving earthen houses, only 90 have been renovated and are fully habitable today.
Thanks to its thick, breathable walls, the property offers excellent living comfort: natural thermal insulation, cool interiors in summer, warm spaces in winter, and a healthy, stable indoor climate. It is an eco-friendly, sustainable home with low running costs.
The interiors preserve authentic features of rural tradition: brick floors, exposed wooden beams, irregular walls, and soft, organic shapes that create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The house is arranged on two levels. On the ground floor there are two main rooms, two service areas used as storage, and a traditional wood-fired oven. On the first floor, accessed by an internal staircase, there are two bedrooms and a bathroom.
Outside, a spacious garden planted with Mediterranean species surrounds the house, while two large trees provide shaded areas, perfect for dining or relaxing outdoors.
The property is officially listed in the Register of Earthen Houses under the name “La Casa di Z’Andulina”, and in the past it was used as a venue to promote local food products.
This is a rare architectural treasure and an ideal choice for those who wish to live in a natural and sustainable environment, enriched by history and tradition.
